Alternative education at the Academy is another way, a different path, an innovative means that embraces lessons learned, to achieve quality teaching; testing; counseling; learning and administration in the vicissitudinary field of education to a here to fore, most illusive clientele.

Mission Statement

Luke C. Moore Academy is a magnet alternative high school whose mission is to promote a competent and compassionate secondary educational experience for young people ages sixteen through twenty who have dropped out of school or had difficulties in the traditional school setting. This caring, learning environment, which addresses both the academic and socio-economic needs of the students, challenges young people to become educated, productive, responsible contributors to society. We firmly believe that given a quality educational opportunity in a nurturing environment coupled with patience and skilled alternative educators, students who have been left behind may become successful.

Judge Luke C. Moore
The Honorable Luke Charles Moore served our city with great distinction and honor for over fifteen years as a judge of the D. C. Superior Court. One of his many endeavors was his support of the D. C. Street Academy, an alternative education program for at-risk students. Judge Moore devoted a great deal of his personal time trying to steer our troubled youth to base their lives on hard work and perseverance, values which made him successful in like and respected across the land.
